As a follow up to yesterdays post I thought I would post some of my favorite pictures of the coveted 4 poster bed! Here's my eye candy for the day!

This one is probably my favorite, it has been in my design file for years! I almost got the deal of the century on it once, but The Brick wouldn't ship it here because there is a Brick store in the Maritimes... yeah it's

Grey

This is how my bedroom looks, or at least it did when this picture was taken about 3 1/2 years ago (nope... no recent pictures to be found and camera is not working very well today... not to mention I don't feel much like cleaning just to take a picture!) I really like grey, it is such a moody neutral. The headboard I made myself as a quick fix but this bedroom is what I long for...

I have ALWAYS wanted a 4-poster bed, not just because they are popular right now. I think they are regal, though this girl is no princess! I love the hits of orange against the grey, I have never used orange as an accent color in  my house, but hey why not? The bedroom is probably on the very bottom of my list of priorities but a girl can dream right?

Since I can look at a picture and discern whether or not I like it this was the perfect quiz for me to find my style! I know what I like, but I could never quite define it... this is me to a T!

Rustic Revival


You can take kid out of the country but you can't take the country out of the kid... or is your theme "you can take the kid out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the kid?" Either way you play it, you are one of the unique individuals who loves a mix of modern and country. The clean lines of the modern softened by rustic /vintage elements is the perfect mix in your mind. And can we blame you? You've taken the best aspects of two popular designs and mixed them in a manner that appeals young and old alike. A subtle background of white or light colors provides a nice canvas for all the wonderful flea market, eBay or garage sale finds as well as the classic modern pieces that you love.





Materials


The material palette for urban country runs the gamut because of the two extremes being mixed. On the countryside you see a lot of wood, woven rope, canvas and linen, rustic metals and wrought iron, cowhide and vintage leather. On the more modern side, you see acrylic, satin and polished nickel and chrome, glass, faux fur, refined leather, fiberglass and sleek woods. It's the mixing of these elements that makes the style work so well. Seagrass and other natural woven materials are often used for floor coverings. Concrete and natural wood floors are very popular, and work really well together.


Colors


When it comes to color, think light, casual and airy. White, pale gray or beige, khaki and sage; all of these colors make nice, subtle backdrops for Urban Country style. Think of the colors of natural linen, concrete, and if you'd like to go dark, use the dark brownish-black of iron or the deep burnt orange of rust. The key is to keep the spaces feeling open (go modern!) and yet warm (yay for rustic!), and by going light on the walls and major pieces and more color on the accents and accessories you can achieve this mix really well.

"You're the luckiest Mom in the world..."

A while ago someone asked what I did for a living;

Me: I stay home with my boys
She: Oh, so you're just a homemaker. What do you do all day? A housewife... huh...
Me: stunned into speechlessness, oh I try to stay busy... change the subject

My first reaction was anger, just a homemaker. Then my own self-doubt started in...
Is worth measured by what you do for a living? Perhaps in todays society it is, the amount of money and prestige your job earns you dictates who you are to so many.

I'm not what you would call "housewifey". I don't cook well. Dinner is rarely on the table when Bruce gets home from work, usually he makes it when he gets home. I have NEVER darned a pair of socks. I don't own a sewing machine. I took Home Ec in school, and while I didn't flunk I don't remember much. I was more focused on Science and History and French, afterall those were the subjects that were going to get me into a good university and thus get me a good job. I have a diplomas in International Business, I speak 3 languages, I have travelled and lived in another country. I sometimes wonder how I ended up here...

 Yesterday my 4 year old informed me that I was the luckiest Mom in the world. When I asked him why he thought that, he informed me that it's because I have him and his brother and I get to stay home and take care of them all day, everyday. Daddy's not so lucky, he has to go to work you know! You're so right little man!

Family Under the Weather

Last weekend Bruce was sick. He is a big baby when he's sick, and he'll admit to that. By Wednesday Dawson had it. Today Dylan and I have the sniffles and the hallmark signs of that dreaded cold. I always wonder 3 things when colds hit our house...

1. How is it that kids are just so resilient? They might have runny, stuffy noses, fevers and coughing fits, but they can still run around the house at mach 2 with their hair on fire!

2. On the other hand, when Bruce is sick he believes he should be able to sit in his la-z-boy and watch tv and not be bothered, if you look at him the wrong way he complains that he's feeling so terrible and just wants to be able to sit in peace for a little while... what the heck? Seriously, if the kids don't  stop when they are sick do you really think they're going to stop just because you're sick?

3. Which leads me to this, when I am sick life goes on as usual. Moms don't get sick days. But how come whenever I am sick it seems as though the kids are even more wound up? Do they have a 6th sense that tells them Mom just isn't on top of her game today?  Let the good times roll! Oh and pass the kleenex please!

Mommy Ramblings

I don't know any other stay-at-home Moms. I really thought I might be the only CRAZY one out there! I've been asked a million times why I chose this life, why I chose to live on one income, why the "sacrifice", why I chose to spend my whole life running after kids. I've been asked not just why I do it, but how I do it every. single. day. 

The truth? Some days I don't know the answer myself. Some days it is so utterly and completely chaotic around here that I don't know which way is up. Some days I feel envious of Bruce; some days I wish I could trade places with him... other days I am glad I don't have to.

I love that I have the power to fix booboos with just a kiss, that little people still want to sit with Mom and read books, that they want to snuggle and be loved all day! I love that their world is so simple and innocent and we try to keep it that way for as long as possible. I think you can learn a lot from kids if you take the time to see the world through their eyes.

There's just something I love about this room, while I can't quite put my finger on it I know that I would love to have this room in my house.  Isn't funny how you can fall in love with a room and not even know why? It's not really my style... or is it?
