I used to have grass, as recently as Saturday morning actually, but because Bruce wants a garage (and the grading of the yard was such that during every rain storm water came running into our basement instead of away from the house- but really I'm sure it was about the garage) we had the yard regraded, with an excavator much to the childrens delight!
My kids are attracted to mud, they will find the loan mud puddle in any otherwise dry space. They goop it through their fingers, paint my front door with it, make mudpies, cart it around in buckets and wagons and trucks. My father would tell you they inherited that from me, though I'm sure I never made as much of a mess with mud as these boys do. They now have a whole yard full of it, imagine their excitement- and then think what my house must look like... muddy footprints everywhere!
I have thought that this house needed a mudroom for a while now, the kind with those beautiful lockers and storage cupboards. I love the idea of mudrooms, the storage and organization they provide, and yet I didn't need the actual mud. Given the current state of my front yard I think this reno is in short order! I'll bet that didn't enter Bruce's mind when he decided to have an excavator come and make mud soup out of my front yard.
